Operational driver app
Product context
A mobile driver experience focused on grouped pickups, multi-leg deliveries, route execution, proof of delivery, and workflow clarity across operational logistics scenarios

Operational complexity
Drivers work across optimised and manually sequenced routes, grouped pickup workflows, configurable proof requirements, skill-based assignments, and hub-based operations. All within a single execution flow

Designing around operational clarity
The design focused on reducing cognitive load and turning fragmented delivery tasks into a guided operational journey
From simple job cards to workflow-aware execution
Grouped and concatenated jobs were redesigned as condensed workflow cards that expose progress, dependencies, and route structure directly from the Job List

Multi-Leg delivery workflows
Designing a guided driver experience for complex logistics operations with grouped pickups, concatenated deliveries, dependency sequencing, and proof-of-delivery workflows

Sequencing multiple pickups before final delivery
Drivers complete a guided pickup sequence while the final delivery remains visible but locked until all required pickups are completed

Configurable Proof of Delivery
Designed a flexible completion workflow where merchants can define which delivery requirements are mandatory. Drivers only see the fields relevant to the current operational process, reducing friction while keeping compliance and evidence capture consistent

Structured delivery outcomes
Configurable completion codes designed to standardise delivery workflows, improve operational reporting, and simplify how drivers capture real-world delivery outcomes. Merchants can define custom success and failure codes with configurable validation rules, creating a scalable operational language for drivers, dispatchers, and reporting systems.

Proof of delivery capture
The media workflow supports real-time photo capture, gallery selection, and multi-image attachment to help drivers document delivery outcomes, damaged goods, loading conditions, and operational exceptions more efficiently

Configurable signature verification
Merchants can enable signature capture for specific delivery types, allowing drivers to collect legally and operationally relevant confirmation directly within the completion flow while preserving a fast field experience

Dynamic proof requirements based on workflow type
The completion system adapts dynamically based on merchant configuration, allowing businesses to enable or disable modules such as photos, signatures, documents, comments, and completion codes depending on the operational context, delivery type, or pickup workflow requirements
Flexible operational driver platform
Beyond the core delivery execution flow, the platform supports a much wider operational ecosystem including shift checklists, barcode scanning, route optimisation, driver schedules, grouped pickups, proof-of-delivery workflows, favourite hubs, vehicle restrictions, skill-based assignments, dispatcher communication, and operational exception handling.
Each workflow module was designed to be configurable and scalable, allowing businesses to enable or disable operational capabilities depending on company size, delivery complexity, compliance requirements, and operational maturity.
However, the primary design goal remained consistent throughout the project: reducing the amount of time and cognitive effort required for drivers to complete operational tasks in the field.
Drivers operate in fast-moving environments where delays, unclear workflows, excessive taps, or fragmented information directly impact delivery efficiency, operational costs, and customer experience. The product therefore prioritises workflow clarity, sequential guidance, dependency visibility, and fast task completion to help drivers stay focused on execution rather than interface management.
